How to identify a good wedding videographer

Coming from a wedding videographer… you are overpaying.

  1. YOU’RE BEING OVERCHARGED

Most wedding videographers know that they can charge more for wedding services. Weddings are expensive. The client is already spending a TON of time and money on their big day. As a lead, they’re much more likely to say yes to pricey upcharges because of the sunken cost fallacy.

To put it simply, the client will say yes to spending $500 more because they’ve already sunk $5000 into their photographer/videographer.

2. PACKAGES ARE A WAY TO CHARGE MORE MONEY

Additionally, most wedding videographers package most of their amenities behind a pay wall. They’ll say that if you want drone footage you need the silver package, and if you want 2 videographers you need the gold package. If you want 8 hours you need the silver premium package.

It certainly helps to see what you’re paying for, but coming from a wedding videographer, it doesn’t cost us anything extra to fly a drone around for 20 minutes. It doesn’t cost me anything at all to upload all of your footage to a dropbox link so you can download it and keep it forever. It costs me $0 to bring my second camera and put it on a tripod to record your ceremony.

One other gripe about packages - it’s a sales trick as old as time. Make your first package so bad in value, but so close to the second package in price that your customers will automatically agree to pay a little bit more for the second package. Make your third package so expensive that the customer thinks they’re getting a great deal by selecting the second package.

Packages are just a way for the business to get you to buy what they want you to buy and what they want to provide.

3. OUR RECOMMENDATION

Now we can only take on 15-20 weddings a year - because every wedding is primarily shot by our owner, Pete Magazzu. So whether you are booking with Magazzu Media or another videographer, find one that offers their value up front.

What does that mean?

Well if you head over to our wedding page, you’ll see that we don’t offer packages. We provide everything that we can possible do for one flat rate. For us, that means 8 hours of work, 2 videographers, a long highlight up to 8 minutes, static video of your ceremony, dances and speeches, audio capture, drone footage, raw footage delivered electronically, and more.

CONCLUSION

Again, we can’t stress this enough - find a wedding videographer that provides value upfront, not one that nickles and dimes you for every little thing that costs them $0 to do.

We would be happy to capture your big day, so long as we have room left in our calendar. If not though, fill out our form anyway and we can connect you with fantastic videographers within our network!
